Keynote Speaker – Dr. Garrett Hope
Dr. Garrett Hope is an award-winning composer, speaker, and coach. His mission in life is to help people find new opportunities and income streams and to take courageous action.In 2020 he delivered a TEDx talk on how music, and the arts in general, can make science more accessible and engaging for general audiences. From 2005–2020 he taught at a variety of colleges and universities in Colorado, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania.Currently, he travels the country (and over Zoom!) speaking to audiences of creatives, helping them to think business-ly and to put systems in place.Garrett holds degrees from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the University of Northern Colorado, and Colorado Christian University. He is a native of Colorado, but currently lives in Nebraska with his wife and daughter.
bassoon – Maya Grossman
Maya Grossman is the Second Bassoon of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra where she holds a Graduate Staff Assistantship in Bassoon at Wichita State University. As an orchestral and chamber musician, Maya is both a performer and arts advocate. She is the Bassoonist of the new music ensemble, The_____Experiment, and currently serves as their Administrative Director. She strives to commission and perform both classical repertoire and new music to explore the different roles a bassoon has in each ensemble while actively increasing representation in music.

clarinet – Michelle Cusick
Michelle Cusick is a clarinetist, photographer, and graphic designer. Michelle studied at Michigan State University and received a BM in Music Performance studying with Dr. Guy Yehuda. As a student, she has traveled to various countries throughout Europe performing in ensembles including the World Youth Wind Orchestra Project in Schladming, Austria, the 2015 International Clarinet Festival in Madrid, and a study abroad program in Todi, Italy. Additionally, she was part of the summer program at California State University – Fresno. Michelle is a founding member, clarinetist of The _____ Experiment. They have performed in various venues, colleges, and educational outreach concerts.

guitar – Dr. Jonathan L. Smith
Dr. Jonathan Smith is a music producer, educator, and guitarist. Dr. Smith is the CEO and co-founder of the independent record label and production company, Glaize Avenue Studios. He can be found credited as the producer for The Dialogue, a songwriting duo, and guitarist for GS Duo, an award-winning flute and guitar ensemble. As supported by his dissertation, “Idiomatic Adaptation for the Guitar: Partnership Between Composer and Performer,” Dr. Smith often collaborates and cowrites with composers and songwriters. He wishes to demystify the writing process surrounding guitar music so that it and other fretted string instruments may become more accessible to composers and guitarists alike.

harp – Danielle Kuntz
As a new music harpist, Danielle Kuntz is dedicated to bringing new music to life. Danielle believes that the longevity of the classical music industry relies on living composers. She has focused her career on connecting these composers with new audiences by commissioning them and performing their music. Danielle also works to make the harp a more accessible instrument for composers through lectures, workshops, and individual instruction. She is also the harpist and Marketing Director of the Midwest-based new music ensemble The_____Experiment. Danielle holds degrees from the University of North Texas and is currently based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

oboe – Ava Wirth
Ava Wirth is an oboist studying at DePaul University in Chicago working towards a Master of Music Performance degree and studying with Alex Klein. With a focus on new music, Ava has taken part in collaborations and recordings of contemporary works. This includes works by Adam Kennaugh, Josh Trentadue, and Robert Lemay. Ava is currently a member of The _____ Experiment and performs with the DePaul Symphony Orchestra. In her free time, Ava enjoys tending to her succulents and watching comedy movies. She earned a Bachelors in Music from Bowling Green State University in 2020 studying with Dr. Nermis Mieses.

percussion – Mendel Lee
Mendel Lee is a music professional whose career oscillates between composition, music education, artistic entrepreneurship, and the pageantry arts. His work has been performed across the globe, most recently as a part of the World Expo 2020 Dubai, and his music has been described as “finding the right balance between minimalist… [static] space and forward motion and trajectory”. A passionate new music advocate, Mendel is the founder and executive director of nienteForte, a concert series devoted to championing new music in New Orleans. He also performs regularly as a percussionist with Versipel New Music.

Marianne Parker is a Chicago-based pianist. Marianne’s work is driven by her passion to communicate the vibrancy and variety of classical music, especially to those who have yet to discover it. Her work can be heard on three commercially released albums, Pages intimes (2019), Pyano Sa (2020), and an upcoming release from PARMA records featuring mezzo-soprano Megan Ihnen. Marianne is curator for an upcoming anthology of 21st century works for solo piano through NewMusicShelf Publishing. Drew has collaborated on over 150 pieces by composers such as Andrew Mead, Jamie Leigh Sampson, David Heinick, and Marilyn Shrude. Drew serves as the Assistant Managing Director for the Cleveland Uncommon Sound Project and saxophonist for The _____ Experiment. Musician, composer, and educator Brian Kai Chin is fluent in western classical, jazz, and world traditions. Focused on using music as a universal language to bring people together and celebrate our shared humanity, Brian’s vision is embedded in his work as creator and Founding Director of Common Tone Arts, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to transforming lives through artistic creation. As the Chair of the Music Department at Seattle Pacific University, Dr. Chin has led an innovative 21st-Century curriculum redesign that encourages students to become cultural leaders by nurturing complete musicianship and creating socially conscious art. An active artist, Brian has composed various works for chamber ensembles, soloists, and vocalists. He is currently working on an opera exploring his Chinese American heritage titled American Phoenix.

voice – Drew Swatosh (they/them)
Drew Swatosh (they/them) is a Vancouver, Washington-based composer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist. Inspired by their background in arts-integrated education, they write eclectic, programmatic music, using composing as a means of processing the world around them. Drew’s collaborators include the Seattle Opera Creation Lab; choral educator Stephanie Bivins; the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics Music Department; and vocalists Stephanie Lamprea, Marguerite McKean, and Carolyn Quick. As a vocalist, they made their professional debut with Persisting Sound, worked under Conspirare Artistic Director Craig Hella Johnson at the Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium, and currently sing with In Medio.
