Brian Kai Chin – trumpet

The trumpet is a much more versatile and lyrical instrument than typically written for. With a long military history and centuries of tropes, this instrument can play the traditional role of the fanfare signal instrument and evoke a quality of heroism and reverence. However, most composers miss the many nuanced qualities of this lyrical and expressive instrument. This session will explore both the traditions of best practices for this instrument, as well as ways to push the envelope.
